McDonald's Creates World's
Smallest Restaurant for Bees The McHive was created by creative ad agency
NORD DDB for a Ronald McDonald House fundraiser. It was successfully auctioned
off for $10,000 in honor of
World Bee Day on May 20. The tiny replica includes
both the signature golden
arches and a drive-thru window. Inside the McHive is a fully-functioning
beehive with enough room to reportedly
host thousands of bees. Nord DDB says the idea for the beehive
was inspired by the fast food chain’s
current efforts to help the bee population. Five locations throughout Sweden have installed
beehives on their roofs, while others have planted
flowers and plants outside their locations. The bee population has faced
a dangerous decline in recent decades, as American and European beekeepers have
reported annual hive losses of 30 percent or higher. Christoffer Rönnblad, marketing director
of McDonald’s Sweden, hopes the McHive
will encourage others to join the cause. Christoffer Rönnblad,
