How to Extract a tar.gz File Using Terminal on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS?

Right click on the Desktop, and then click on 'Open terminal'. Now, go to the directory where you have your tar.gz file. After that, follow the steps below:-

Step 1: To Extract type the command below:-

sudo tar -xvzf name_of_file.tar.gz


x: It tells tar to extract the files.

v: It is verbose, it lists all the files in the archive.

z: It tells the tar command to decompress the archive using gzip.

f: It stands for file, It tells tar the name and path of the compressed file.
