Hundreds of American retailers and manufacturers are urging President Trump to resolve the trade dispute with China, saying tariffs on Chinese goods will hurt the U.S. economy and consumers.
More than six-hundred companies and trade groups, including Walmart, Costco and Target, wrote to the White House on Thursday urging Trump to remove the levies on Beijing.
The companies say "the additional tariffs will have a significant, negative, and long-term impact on American businesses, farmers, families, and the U.S. economy".
Last month, the Trump Administration increased tariffs to 25 percent from 10 percent on two-hundred billion U.S. dollars worth of Chinese imports and has threatened to impose new tariffs on an additional 300 billion dollars of Chinese goods.
The U.S. Trade Representative will hold public hearings on the proposed tariffs from Monday.
