First Chinese national chosen to head UN food and agriculture agency, as Beijing pushes for more senior jobs at the world body

Qu Dongyu has become the first Chinese national to head the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. The 55-year-old biologist Qu won 108 of the 191 votes cast by member states on June 23, 2019, beating candidates from France and Georgia.
