한일 정상회담 G20 기간에 이뤄지지 않아: 청와대
Korea's presidential office says that as things stand now there will not be a summit meeting between President Moon and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of the G20 Summit this week in Osaka.
Officials at the top office say that although Seoul is ready for talks with Japan at any time,... it seems Tokyo is not.
The official was asked whether that might change once the leaders get there,... replying that a summit whenever Japan says it wants one.
Relations between the neighboring countries went south most recently after Korea called on Japan to consider compensating the victims of forced labor by voluntarily establishing funds from Korean and Japanese firms.
That was a counterproposal to Tokyo's demand that an arbitration panel be formed on the issue, which stems from Japan's colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula in the early 1900s.
