South Korea's ruling Democratic Party is calling for the National Assembly Act to be revised to prevent a parliamentary standstill and ensure lawmakers work year-round.
In a policy speech Wednesday,... floor leader Lee In-young apologized to the people for not getting work done on pending bills as well as the government's delayed extra budget proposal... that's been held up because of the prolonged stalemate.
The National Assembly is finally back on track after 80 days of inaction due to partisan wrangling.
Lee also said there needs to be system that allows a recall of lawmakers saying those that don't work should be penalized.
He stressed that co-existence will be key for the remaining terms of lawmakers calling for patience and concessions on all sides.
Lee also called for partisan cooperation to support the government's peace drive,... saying the recent meeting between the leaders of the two Koreas and the U.S. is a sign to end hostilities.
