On July 8, 2019, the United States Women's National Team made history as the first team to win the World Cup four times. This is the USWNT's second consecutive win since their 2015 victory and makes them the most successful national team to date. This has sparked massive media attention to their active lawsuit against US Soccer, in which the women's team accused the corporation of gender discrimination in their pay. Midfielder Megan Rapinoe also made headlines for saying she was "not going to the f**king White House." Rapinoe has stood by her comments, even after President Trump responded with a fiery tweet storm, telling the seasoned athlete she "had to win first."
