Ahead of a meeting this week between the top trade negotiators of the U.S. and China,... there's speculation the two sides could make modest progress toward a deal.
The Wall Street Journal on Sunday cited sources "close to the talks," who expressed optimism they could edge closer to a deal with smaller, more obtainable conditions rather than a sweeping one.
That would include a commitment from Beijing to buy large amounts of U.S. soybeans,... and action from Washington to relax its ban on U.S. companies doing business with Huawei.
U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin are due in Shanghai on Tuesday.
They will hold talks with Beijing's top negotiator, Vice Premier Liu He.
Progress made during the meeting could set the stage for the negotiators to tackle bigger issues during follow-up talks in Washington.
