A monument for Korean independence activist Choi Jae-hyung was unveiled in Russia on Monday in front of his former residence.
Choi fought against Japan's colonial rule of Korea while living in Russia.
He sold supplies to the Russian military to fund Korean independence fighters in Russia.
He also founded 30 schools in Russia and supported another well-known independence movement activist Ahn Jung-guen by providing the pistol Ahn used to assassinate Hirobumi Ito, the first Japanese governor-general to the Korean Peninsula.
The monument is in the shape of the Korean Peninsula and the words 'Spirit of Patriotism, Star for the People, Choi Jae-hyung' are engraved on it.
