Scientists Believe Teeth Can
Be Regrown With Stem Cells A group of scientists at the University of
Plymouth believe they have found the stem
cells responsible for tooth formation. They have also discovered Dlk1, which is the gene
responsible for sparking these stem cells into action. This discovery could be revolutionary, as there
is currently no way to repair damaged
teeth aside from fillings or crowns. According to the CDC, seven percent
of Americans have lost at least one
tooth to decay by age 17. Among adults who are 65 to 74 years old,
26 percent have lost all their teeth. Although further research is needed, lead researcher
Dr. Bing Hu believes this could be an important step
towards “understanding stem cell regeneration.” Dr. Bing Hu, via Telegraph
