Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on August 11, 2019, saying that he wants to pay the income tax on the cash prize of Rs 1.3 crore received through Seoul Peace Prize. PM Modi said that he wants to pay tax like all other taxpayers in country pay. It may be noted that the Finance Ministry has withdrawn the tax exemption it had granted earlier to a cash prize of Rs 1.3 crore.
