WWI ghost fleet becomes first US national marine sanctuary since 2000

In a quiet inlet halfway down the Potomac Rover in Maryland rest the skeletal remains of more than 100 wooden steamships, hastily built for World War I and then abandoned. Now the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has designated the area in which theY lie - Mallows Bay - a national marine sanctuary, the first designation since 2000.
