And for an expert's take on South Korea's decision to terminate the military info-sharing pact with Japan.... and what impact this will have on future South Korea-Japan relations as well as South Korea-U.S. relations,... Dr. Go Myong-hyun , Research Fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies joins me in the studio today.
It's great to see you.
Good to be here.
1- So first and foremost, tell us more about this military information-sharing agreement with Japan, also known as GSOMIA, and why the termination of this agreement is such a big deal to both countries.
2- What action could Japan take against South Korea from here on out?
How will Seoul's decision affect future South Korea-Japan relations which have already been soured due to the ongoing trade and diplomatic disputes?
3- The U.S. meanwhile said it was concerned and disappointed with South Korea's decision to end the deal with Japan... saying that such a decision would negatively affect U.S. security interests and its allies.
4- From a diplomatic dispute over the wartime forced labor ruling.... then to Japan's trade restrictions against South Korea... and now we're at a point where the two sides will no longer cooperate over security... how do you see this playing out?
Is the worst yet to come in terms of Seoul-Tokyo relations?
Thank you for your insight today professor.
