MANILA, Philippines – Fans of the Calgary Hitmen hockey team made their annual donation to local charities by showering the ice with teddy bears. In this unique holiday tradition, fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to the game and throw them onto the ice when the home team scores their first goal. It was Pavel Padakin of Calgary who scored the team’s “Teddy Bear Toss” goal, triggering about 26,000 of the furry toys to rain down on the ice. Pick-up trucks were then used to remove the toys as they began their journey into the hands and hearts of local children. -- Mornings @ ANC, December 4, 2013.
