MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine government will not declare a ceasefire with the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), a breakaway group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Interior Secretary Mar Roxas says troops will pursue members and leaders of the BIFF, because they have standing warrants of arrest for several atrocities in Mindanao. Soldiers have already captured the BIFF’s camp in Maguindanao, but two BIFF leaders, including Umbra Kato, eluded arrest. The MILF, meanwhile, says it tried to convince the BIFF to join the peace process, but has so far failed. News Now, ANC, February 9, 2014.
