In Sochi, Filipino-American skater JR Celski missed the cut for an Olympic bronze medal in short track skating. Celski, who represents the United States, finished behind third-placer Victor An of Russia. It was Canada’s Charles Hamelin who grabbed the gold, the fourth Olympic medal of his career. He is now three medals away from becoming the most decorated Canadian Olympian ever. In Alpine skiing, Maria Hoefl-Riesch proved she is still the world’s best all-around female skier when she retained her Olympic super combined title in the slalom. This is the German skier’s third Olympic gold medal in only her sixth career Olympic race. Austrian Nicole Hosp took silver, while American Julia Mancuso ended third. Speed skaters from the Netherlands, meanwhile, smashed the competition in the men’s 500-meter event, sweeping the medal haul. Mornings @ ANC, February 11, 2014.
