This is the moment typhoon Lingling brought violent winds and rain to Japan yesterday (September 5) afternoon.

The storm formed in the northern part of Philippines sea before strengthening and hitting Japan the same day. It caused strong winds, heavy rain and flash flooding across Ishigaki and Miyakojima island.

Footage taken from Miyakojima shows devastating gusts of wind from the category 4 typhoon as it pummelled the island, with the trees barely rooted to the ground.

Officials said that at least five people had been injured by the storm, which registered gusts of 220 km/ph.
Resident, Hitomi, said she was trapped in her house and frightened by the disaster battering the area.

She said: "Since the year began, this is the 13th storm that hit my house. It is too much in the period of eight months."

Typhoon Lingling is forecast to move up to the Korean peninsula and cause downpours during this weekend.

The wind will be weaker than it was in Japan but Koreans have been warned to prepare for the impact.
