Philippines culls 7,000 pigs after its first report of African swine fever cases

The Philippine government confirmed on August 9, 2019, its first cases of African swine fever in two towns near the capital Manila.   Authorities have culled more than 7,000 pigs to try and control the outbreak. The Philippines is the latest nation to be affected by the virus, following recent outbreaks in Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar.
