The United Auto Workers union is going on strike as of midnight Sunday... after failing to reach a deal with General Motors over higher pay.
The first nationwide strike at General Motors in 12 years involves roughly 48-thousand GM workers across the U.S.
Calling the strike "the last resort," the union said it does not take the situation lightly.
AP reported it's highly possible that GM production in Canada and Mexico may also stop.
A two-day strike back in 2007 cost the firm 300-million dollars.
Negotiations were reportedly harder to reach this time around, as GM plans to shut down 4 auto assembly plants in the States.
South Korea's union also went on a 4 day strike last week, and is still struggling to reach an agreement with GM Korea.
