The top U.S. official on East Asia has positively assessed the idea of holding reunions for Korean Americans and their long-lost families in North Korea.
At a U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Wednesday, Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman urged the Trump administration to push for the reunion,...saying nearly 100-thousand Koreans in the U.S. have relatives in North Korea that they haven't seen since the Korean War.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, David Stilwell, called it a "great idea" and said he would convey it to Washington's Special Representative for North Korea, Stephen Biegun, who's in charge of working-level talks with the North.
