The country's biggest fashion event, Seoul Fashion Week for the 2020 Spring and Summer season kicked off on Monday.
And this year, the annual event sends a message that goes beyond just colors and designs.
Our Lee Kyung-eun tells us more.
If you want to check out what's trending in fashion, Dongdaemun Design Plaza in central Seoul is the place to be.
The Seoul Fashion Week for the 2020 Spring/Summer season kicked off there on Monday.
"DDP has been hosting the event since 2014.It is the perfect venue for hosting the event, given its location in the center of Dongdaemun, Seoul's fashion hub, as well as its award-winning architecture."
Thirty-two top Korean designers, including Gee Chun-hee, Chang Kwang-hyo and Song Zio, will launch their latest collections.
Joining Tuesday's line-up is local brand Lang and Lu which had caused a sensation in the eco-friendly fashion market with its signature fake furs.
On the sidelines, there is a separate show for hundreds of rising designers to flaunt their creative works,…hoping for a game changing moment in their career.
"I participated through a government-sponsored program. It is a great opportunity for young designers like me to connect to local and foreign markets as well as with top designers for collaboration."
And to spread these latest looks further afield, the organizer has invited some 500 buyers from home and abroad, the biggest number ever.
This includes buyers from 12 key places with the biggest purchasing power like Hong Kong, Taiwan and Dubai,… as well as from major global e-commerce firms like Net-a-porter and Matchesfashion.
"Very good quality and the modern design,...so that's why I think a lot of people want to come."
But to be part of the festival, you don't have to work in the industry.
Anyone who loves fashion can come.
"Even though we can't watch the show, it is like amazing to see all the people wearing different clothes, expressing themselves. It's totally worth it."
In the midst of colors and designs, Seoul Fashion Week aims to send a message that goes beyond fashion.
It is hosting the two-day Sustainable Fashion Summit Seoul from Wednesday with 24 foreign experts,...promoting ethical and environmental-friendly practices like upcycling and organic garments.
This way, Seoul Fashion Week is not just about future trends, but also what other things people should consider when shopping for clothes.
