Horrifying moment two moving trains collide head-on in southern India

CCTV caught the shocking moment two moving trains collided head-on at a railway station in south India on the morning of November 11.

The crash took place near Kacheguda Railway station near Hyderabad, and footage shows several coaches sent into the air in the collision.

A few passengers can then be seen running out of the mangled coaches away from the accident site.

The crash was caused multi-modal transport system (MMTS) train overshot the signal and collided with the Intercity Express (17028) at 10.41 am.

The accident left 16 people injured, including a driver of the MMTS train, Shekar, who was trapped in his cabin and only rescued 8 hours later.

All were safely evacuated from the scene and the injured passengers were conveyed to hospital, and no fatalities have been reported.

Railway Public Relations Officer Ch rakesh said: "We have to find out what happened. A thorough probe would be carried out and we will take all steps to ensure better safety."

Commissioner Railway Safety, Southern Central Circle Secunderabad, Ram Kripal will conduct an inquiry into the incident.
