During a recent appearance on ‘The Tonight Show,’
Chadwick Boseman revealed that his first audition with
Marvel was for a role in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’.
Boseman apparently tried out for the role of
Drax, which later ended up going to Dave Bautista. .
I didn’t think I was gonna get it … And it’s
weird, too. It’s a testament to Marvel because…
Ant-Man has a different tone and feel, and
we didn’t know what that was gonna be. We
didn’t know what Guardians was gonna be, Chadwick Boseman, on 'The Tonight Show'.
The audition did end up benefiting Boseman
in the long run, as he believes it put him on track to
play Prince T’Challa in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’.
I only had a few pages [of the script] at that
time. So, it was just good to come in and play
to see what they did with it. I feel like that was
one of the moments where they were like, ‘I
think we can use him for later.’, Chadwick Boseman, on 'The Tonight Show'.
Marvel went on to expand Boseman's
character in 2018 with 'Black Panther,'
which launched him into into MCU fame.
