6.4-Magnitude Earthquake in Albania
Kills at Least 16 People .
The quake hit Albania's
central coast Tuesday night.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS),
efforts to repair the economic damage
will likely surpass $100 million. .
The earthquake's epicenter was
approximately 20 miles northwest
of the country's capital city, Tirana.
The 6.4 magnitude quake hit Albania around 4 a.m. local time and could be felt some 200 miles north in Sarajevo, NPR reporter Matthew Algeo, via NPR.
According to the USGS,
the quake was also
felt in the Puglia region
of southern Italy.
According to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama,
Italy, Greece, France, Turkey and other nations have
offered to assist with rescue and recovery efforts.
