This is the heartbreaking moment plastic pollution was pulled from the stomach of a dead fish.

Residents found the large grouper fish washed up on a beach in Negros Oriental, the Philippines on November 21.

Eunice Tenplado said the fish weighed 10-kilograms, but he noticed that it was bloated so he took it home.

Footage shows a friend cutting open the fish's stomach and removing a large plastic disposable cup, which may have caused its death after it was swallowed.

Eunice said: "The fish must have been dead for a few hours and was taken by the waves to our shore. There was lots of trash all around the fish and it was starting to smell.''

Footage shows the residents opening up the fish's stomach and finding a plastic cup inside and other trash.

A smaller decomposing fish was also found inside its gut, which may have been its last meal.

The grouper fish, locally known as "lapu-lapu" is a prized catch in the Philippines as it is one of the most expensive.

Eunice added: ''The grouper fish swallowed the plastic at some point, which have killed it. There is so much in the sea here, it's hard for the fish to avoid it.''
