This is the moment a huge python was rescued after crawling into a well where it was unable to escape.

Shocked residents noticed the snake struggling when they went to fetch water in Chonburi, eastern Thailand, on Tuesday (January 14) afternoon.

They contacted a rescue foundation who arrived to fish the serpent from the bottom of the 32ft deep well.

Snake handler Kanokporn Kosiyaphat said the 13ft long snake had probably crawled in for a drink of water. The snake then tried to slither back up the well wall but it was too high for it to successfully escape.

He said: "When we arrived the snake was trying to climb up the wall but it appeared to be too exhausted to come up.

"We presume that it had been trying relentlessly for several days before we received the call and went there."

The rescuer team will check the python's health before they will release it back to the wild.
