Authorities in Indonesia revealed that an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) was responsible of the deaths of hundreds of pigs on the island of Bali.
The director of animal health at the Ministry of Agriculture made the announcement on February 5, as around 880 pigs were reported dead since November 2019.
Footage of pigs being treated for hog cholera in Kabanjahe, North Sumarta from November 12, 2019, shows workers spraying infected animals in their stalls.
ASF killed an estimated 43,000 pigs across North Sumatra in 2019, prompting containment measures to isolate any affected animals.
The disease is highly contagious and has no cure or vaccine, but poses no direct health threat to humans.
