Former #Energy #Secretary Rick Perry will skirt questioning by #Congress during the impeachment of #President #DonaldTrump despite his central role in the administration's contacts with Ukraine.
#Perry stonewalled all requests from lawmakers for information in the investigation, defying a #WhiteHouse subpoena and limiting his public comments to friendly media outlets. And despite a lawsuit that's yielded a trickle of internal records from the #EnergyDepartment and allegations from Rudy Giuliani's associate #LevParnas that Perry played a central role in conveying Trump's demands for investigations into political rival #JoeBiden, the #Senate is poised to acquit #Trump Wednesday with no clear answers about the former Cabinet member’s activities.
While the #Senate may be ending its trial, #Democrats in the House say they will keep pursuing the issue.
“#Thepresident has escaped accountability and so have all the president’s men. Secretary Perry has still major accounting to do about his activities in #Ukraine,” Rep. #JamieRaskin (D-Md.), a member of the House Judiciary and Oversight committees, told POLITICO. “The Senate may have surrendered their constitutional responsibilities but the House of Representatives will not.”
But #Raskin cautioned that #Democrats haven't yet charted a course on how to proceed with any Perry inquiries, and lawmakers face “a lot of strategic decisions to make about how to use our resources” following the conclusion of the Senate trial.
