Shiva is one of the principal deities of Hinduism. He is the Supreme Being, who creates, protects and transforms the universe. It is believed that Lord Shiva can be pleased easily and grants the boon to their devotees. According to some puranas, the Maha mrityunjaya Mantra has been used by many rishis as well as Sati during the time when Chandra suffered from the curse of Prajapati Daksha. By reciting this mantra, the effect of the curse of Daksha, which could make him die, slowed, and Shiva then took Chandra and placed it upon his head.

Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra :
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे
सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् ।
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्
मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ॥
