'박물관-미술관, 이제 온라인으로 본다'...코로나19가 불러온 문화생활 관람 방식의 변화

South Korea's national museums and libraries have been shut down since Februrary 25th... in efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
That doesn't mean there are absolutely no way to enjoy exhibitions and displays.
Museums and libraries are taking their art pieces online so that the public can enjoy them at home as they stay away from public places.
Kan Hyeong-woo reports.
The coronavirus outbreak has changed the way people can enjoy exhibitions in South Korea.
"The National Museum of Korea, here in central Seoul,... and twenty three other museums and libraries managed by the Culture Ministry have closed their doors since late February."
Instead, they have taken their exhibitions and artwork online.
"Even though the museum has been closed, we have uploaded past exhibitions on the museum's website in the form of virtual reality content and videos for those who can't visit.
Viewers can click on the play button and let the VR technology take them through the entire exhibition.
They can press pause to get a closer look at each item by zooming in and out.
With the shutdown period being extended for two more weeks until April 19th,...the National Museum of Korea plans to develop more online content.
The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art has taken a slightly different approach, making use of its YouTube channel.
Under the theme 'museum from home',... a curator guides viewers through a special exhibition on Modern and Contemporary Korean Writing.
The 90-minute clip was streamed live on March 30th... and has over 18-thousand views so far.
Although there are no visitors at the moment, museums across the country have installed new exhibitions and are preparing to bring in more special showings.
If the COVID-19 hiatus continues to drag on,... the public just might get their first glimpse of the new exhibitions online.
