And now we head over to the National Election Commission.
Our Lee Kyung-eun is standing by there to tell us more about the voting process and the voter turnout so far.
Kyung-eun, what's the latest?
Now, the voter turnout has reached double digits for all parts of the country.
The national election commission has been busy keeping track of the numbers in real time.
As of 11 am, the figure was 15-POINT-THREE percent.
That's about POINT-EIGHT percentage points lower than at the same time from the 2016 election.
It's a reverse from earlier in the morning when the turnout was higher than the previous records.
The southeastern city of Daegu is a key area of attention because it was hit hardest by COVID-19 in South Korea.
It's showing the second highest participation rate with 16-point-eight percent,...running neck-in-neck with Gangwon-do Province which has 16-point-nine percent.
This is somewhat unprecedented because, traditionally, Daegu's turnout has been low, and its figure was the country's lowest in the previous election.
But it seems like COVID-19 has further drawn people closer to politics, not away from it.
The polling stations will close at 6 PM, but the official final results will not be announced until very late at night.
And the total number of voters is expected to see a notable jump at 1 PM as early voter turnout will be incorporated in these figures.
In all five previous general elections, only once, in 2002, has the country seen a turnout of over 60 percent.
And this year, despite concerns over the outbreak, the early voter turnout hit a record high of 26.7 percent.
