With sanitation workers of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on an indefinite strike to press for their demands, the situation in the eastern part of the national capital is becoming ill-suited for the residents with each passing day. According to reports, almost every corner of these worst-hit areas is filled with heap of garbage, making it impossible to miss the foul stench coming out of the leftover food, plastic bags and rotten vegetables. As News Nation visited some of those east-Delhi region, locals said they are even afraid of stepping outside their home. The sanitation workers of the cash-strapped EDMC, ruled by the BJP, have been on strike since September 12, demanding payment of their pending salaries and regularisation of contract workers.
