US states are beginning to let nonessential retail stores reopen, though many must operate at a limited capacity.
But according to Business Insider, it's largely unknown whether shoppers will show up once they're able to.
A recent Deloitte survey revealed only 34% of Americans said they would feel safe going shopping right now.
Retailers are scrambling to create strategies to reopen stores while encouraging hygiene and social distancing.
At Macy's, frequently visited areas like fitting rooms and bathrooms will be cleaned more frequently and more visibly.
Both Macy's and Best Buy will require employees to wear masks while at work, and will remind shoppers to maintain social distancing.
