South Korea is going all out to keep the coronavirus under control... following an outbreak at clubs and bars in the Seoul neighborhood of Itaewon.
There have already been secondary and tertiary infections from those clubs,... so it's a battle against time.
Jang Tae-hyun starts us off tonight.
As of noon Friday, South Korea has confirmed 153 cases of COVID-19 linked to the Itaewon clubs and bars.
Among those, 90 were infected at the clubs and the other 63 are family, friends and coworkers... who caught the virus either second- or third-hand.
It's not just clubs, though some of the latest cases happened at singing rooms.
According to the Seoul city government, five people have been infected in the neighborhood of Hongdae, an area popular with young people.
They had not been to Itaewon,... but one of them had been in the same singing room, or noraebang, as someone who had.
These are third-degree infections, and the government is determined to stop it from going any farther.
"Our top priority is to prevent a fourth-level transmission, so that's why we are doing our best to trace and manage contacts with the infected. So far, there have been no cases or indications of fourth-degree infections."
In terms of age, 15 people confirmed with the virus are younger than 18.
Some of them were infected by their teacher... at a private academy in Incheon.
Meanwhile, the government is going to hold a briefing next Tuesday on guidelines for high-risk facilities like clubs, which right now are closed.
And since the weather is warming up, that will include guidelines on air conditioning in public places.
As of Friday, the total number of cases reported in South Korea stands at 11-thousand-18.
And as of Thursday at 6 PM, almost 37-thousand people were in self-quarantine,... a number that's been rising since the Itaewon outbreak was first discovered.
