According to the Hindi Panchang, Ganga Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha in Jyestha month. On 1 June this year is Ganges Dussehra. On this day, bathing and meditating in the Ganges river gives a person freedom from all sins. On this day, donation is also very special. According to Jyotishacharya Dr. Shonu Mehrotra, there is a religious belief that a person's sins are erased by the remembrance of Ganga. This river is considered the most sacred river in Hinduism. Therefore, she is called as mother. In the era of Corona epidemic, if Ganga bath is not possible, you can earn merit on this festival by donations. According to Dr. Shonu, by bathing in any river on the day of Ganges Dussehra, a person is freed from at least ten sins committed inadvertently by donating and making offerings. The name of this date has been named Ganga Dussehra only after the abolition of these ten sins. On the day of Ganga Dussehra, charity is of special importance. On the day of Ganga Dussehra, the number of things which the devotees should donate should be ten and whatever they worship with, their number should also be ten. हिंदी पंचांग के अनुसार, ज्येष्ठ माह में शुक्ल पक्ष की दशमी को गंगा दशहरा मनाया जाता है। इस साल 1 जून को गंगा दशहरा है। इस दिन गंगा नदी में स्नान-ध्यान करने से व्यक्ति को सभी पापों से मुक्ति मिलती है। इस दिन दान का भी अति विशेष महत्व है। ज्‍योतिषाचार्य डॉ शोनू मेहरोत्रा के अनुसार धार्मिक मान्यता है कि गंगा नाम के स्मरण मात्र से व्यक्ति के पाप मिट जाते हैं। हिन्दू धर्म में इस नदी को सबसे पवित्र नदी माना गया है। अतः इन्हें मां कहकर पुकारा जाता है। कोरोना महामारी के दौर में गंगा स्‍नान संभव नहीं है तो दान से इस पर्व पर पुण्‍य अर्जित कर सकते हैं। डॉ शोनू के अनुसार गंगा दशहरा के दिन किसी भी नदी में स्नान करके दान और तर्पण करने से मनुष्य जाने- अनजाने में किए गए कम से कम दस पापों से मुक्त होता है। इन दस पापों के हरण होने से ही इस तिथि का नाम गंगा दशहरा पड़ा है। गंगा दशहरा के दिन दान-पुण्य का विशेष महत्त्व है। इस दिन दान में सत्तू, मटका और हाथ का पंखा दान करने से दुगुना फल प्राप्त होता है। गंगा दशहरा के दिन श्रद्धालु जन जिस भी वस्तु का दान करें उनकी संख्या दस होनी चाहिए और जिस वस्तु से भी पूजन करें, उनकी संख्या भी दस ही होनी चाहिए। ऐसा करने से शुभ फलों में और अधिक वृद्धि होती है।
