A group of residents of Merrick in New York were seen opposing a Black Lives Matter march in the town on June 2.

Footage captured on Merrick Road by Vincent Fodera shows a group of residents on the pavement as the march walks past in the street.

Some of the group are opposing the march and shouting at demonstrators.

Fodera told Newsflare: "Our group was met by opposition from some Merrick residents that attempted to deny us of our right to protest.

"Police and community leaders ended up coming to a compromise to let us walk a few blocks down the road.

"The entire time, our protest was followed by the anti-protesters who hurled insults and obscenities our way.

"They told us not to be in their - predominantly white - neighborhood and to go the next town over to - predominantly black - Freeport, NY.

"The March lasted approximately 20 minutes.

"The Police were not aggressive, we were not aggressive, but the townspeople were aggressive."
