Sunset Riders is side-scrolling run-'n-gun set on the American Old West, in which four bounty hunters travel through the Wild West pursuing deadly outlaws. At the start of each level, the gamer is shown a wanted poster with the name of the target outlaw and the reward for them, dead or alive. The game has eight levels in total, and as the player progresses, the difficulty curve increases and the rewards are increased. Each level represents a region of the United States, from the first level set in the West Coast, to the last one set in the East Coast.

The game was developed by Konami in 1991 for arcade. Later, in 1992 and 1993, it was ported to the Mega Drive and Super Nintendo respectively.
