Forest officials rescued a wild elephant stuck between some iron fencing bars in southern India's Karnataka.

The incident took place at Bavikere village of Tirthahalli taluk in Shimoga district on June 12.

The video shows an elephant stuck between the fence bars while a huge crowd gathered around it to rescue it.

The forest department officials were alerted while the locals tried to free the elephant themselves.

As the elephant tried to heave itself across the fence, it reportedly collapsed under the iron fencing and his lower back was stuck there.

The giant seemed struggling while one part of the fence was removed to free the animal.

After several attempts, the elephant managed to kick itself free and managed to get back on its feet.

Following this, it dashed towards the forest while the locals and officials cheered for the rescue.

According to guidelines issued by the Project Elephant programme, under the aegis of the ministry of environment, forests and climate change, large-scale fencing is not a solution to human-elephant conflicts.
