The whole world is now experiencing Novel Corona Virus. Due to this pandemic many people died and many of them also recovered. Most scientists and researchers are predicting that there will be another virus named G4 EA H1N1 can create a new pandemic.
Hey everyone my name is Prasanti and today I want to discuss about the informations that I collect from news papers Scientists and researcher’s presentation and can it trigger a Fresh Pandemic and should you be worried?
Even as the world is racing towards finding a potential vaccine for Covid-19 that has killed more than five lakh people worldwide, new research from China, the epicenter of Novel corona virus, identifies a new strain of influenza virus infecting Chinese pigs with the potential of triggering a pandemic. A new type of influenza that's becoming more common in pigs is showing a greater ability to spread to humans and could be the cause of another pandemic.
A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, focuses on the study influenza found in Chinese pigs called G4 EA H1N1.
China is known to have the largest population of pigs globally and the new swine flu strain named G4, has genes similar to those in the virus that caused the 2009 flu outbreak. This study has been published in the US science journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PANS). The 2009 pandemic has impacted 30,000 people globally.
It was reported that at least two cases of G4 infections of humans have been documented, but the virus cannot be transmitted from person to person.
Influenza viruses often jump from pigs to humans but researchers say G4’s inclusion of genes from the 2009 H1N1 pandemic “may promote the virus adaptation,” allowing for human-to-human transmission.
During their research scientists analyzed almost 30,000 swabs collected from pigs at slaughterhouses in 10 Chinese provinces between 2011 and 2018. After testing each swab they found 179 swine influenza viruses, the majority which were G4.
“G4 virus has shown a sharp increase since 2016, and is the predominant genotype in circulation in pigs detected across at least 10 provinces. All of this evidence indicates that G4 EA H1N1 virus is a growing problem in pig farms, and the widespread circulation of G4 viruses in pigs inevitably increases their exposure to humans,” the researchers said.
According to scientists, the new strain (G4) belongs to the family of the H1N1 strain that was responsible for the 2009 flu pandemic. The study mentioned that pigs are intermediate hosts for the generation of pandemic influenza virus.
Hence the systematic surveillance of influenza viruses in pigs is a key measure for pre-warning the emergence of the next pandemic influenza. It cannot be said if this new strain is transmitted from pigs to humans, can transmit from one human to another.
