Goats tested for COVID-19 after two farmers fall ill Karnataka, southern India

Ten goats were tested for COVID-19 in the village of Godekere, Karnataka, India after two farmers tested positive for the virus.

Footage filmed on June 30 shows officials from Animal Husbandry department, wearing PPE, collecting samples from 10 goats.

KG Nandish, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry department, Tumkur said: "The goats were showing symptoms for respiratory illnesses, it's common during this season. The chances of an animal contracting the virus are almost nill, till today there hasn't been any record of this. Since the farmers tested positive and goats were showing respiratory issues we collected 10 samples and five have been sent to the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals, five more have been sent to the National Institute for high-risk animal diseases in Bhopal."

The forty-seven goats were quarantined as a precautionary measure.
