Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador told reporters on Friday that the six members of an Al Jazeera reporting and production team had been called in by the police to have their statements recorded as witnesses, and not suspects.
He assured that the news station would be given the chance to defend themselves should they be charged with offences related to the Sedition Act or other laws.
The six left Bukit Aman at around 3pm after arriving at 9am on Friday.
Al Jazeera published a documentary on the recent rounding up of illegal migrants and alleged mistreatment by the police.
