For nearly two decades, herdsman Wen Xiao has been doing daily patrols to protect wildlife in the Sanjiangyuan National Park in China’s northwestern province of Qinghai. When he started working, he was unpaid and had to cover the cost of essential equipment himself. But since 2004, the years of effort put in by Xiao and other conservationists has started to pay off, since wildlife numbers in the area are reportedly making a rebound.
