Four people miraculously survived after an 18-wheeler lorry truck lost control and fell on top of their cars.

The container truck toppled over when its brakes allegedly failed while making a turn in Chonburi, eastern Thailand on Wednesday afternoon (Aug 5).

Footage shows how the 40ft long metal container landed on to to the white Chevrolet Trailblazer and a blue Chevrolet pickup truck.

Firemen cut through the wreckage and pulled the drivers and passengers in each vehicle to safety. They were taken to hospital and the injuries were not life-threatening.

One of the drivers, Wirat, 20, said he was driving with his father and younger brother, when he saw the speeding truck.

He said: "The truck lost its balance and fell down on us. I am injured on my right shoulder but it's not broken.''

The driver of the other car, Pranom Yuenyong, 43, said he was on his way home after work when it happened.

He said: "I heard a boom and sensing what happened, I jumped off the vehicle in a few seconds."

The victims were rescued by volunteers who used metal cutters to remove them from the vehicles. The injured were given first aid before they were transferred to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, the lorry truck driver Winai Mongkolkitdamrong, 67, was left at the scene to wait for the police investigation.

He said he was delivering a company's container from Samut Sakhon province to the Laem Chabang shipping docks when his brakes failed and lost control.

Winai said: "When I noticed that my brakes had failed, I tried to avoid crashing into more people on the main road so I veered into this alley and hit the two cars."

Police officers directed traffic while the wreckage was removed from the road. They said that CCTV cameras would be checked to find the cause of the crash.

Police captain Apiwat Boom said: ''Investigators will also check to truck to see if there was a problem with the brakes.''
