A 12-year-old girl was attacked by a shark in waters off Australia's tropical northeast coast on Thursday, the second attack in the tourist region within the last 24 hours.

The attack followed the rescue of a 46-year-old Tasmanian woman who was mauled by a shark while swimming in the same area Wednesday evening.
