The seventh witness of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to look into the discovery of mass graves and human trafficking camps in Wang Kelian told on Monday that Thai authorities had indirectly encouraged the movement of illegal immigrants into Malaysia.

Assistant Superintendent Jamaluddin Shah Mohd Jawan said Thai police and army had set up temporary settlements very near to the Malaysian border to station the excess illegal immigrants.

Jamaluddin, who was the acting head of the Special Branch in Padang Besar, Perlis in 2015, added that several Malaysians, who were believed to have been involved in the Wang Kelian human trafficking syndicate, had been on the police radar even before the discovery of the camp.
