신규확진 61명, 사흘째 두 자릿수 ... 지속 감소세

South Korea's virus tally stayed below one hundred for the third day today, but, despite the slowdown,... health authorities remain on alert as they face a critical juncture in Covid-19 control efforts ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
President Moon Jae-in has warned zero-tolerance to anyone, anything deemed to be hampering anti-virus efforts.
Min Suk-hyen reports.
South Korea reported 61 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, marking the third straight day with fewer than one-hundred.
51 were local transmissions while 10 were from overseas.
The nation's total currently stands at 23-thousand one-hundred-six.
But Tuesday's tally is the lowest in over a month, as the country had been seeing triple digits since August 14th.
Health authorities say the latest virus outbreak appears to be stabilizing...because of the county's strict social distancing measures.
And that a so-called 'twindemic' - a simultaneous outbreak of the flu amid the COVID-19 pandemic - can be controlled.
However, ahead of the upcoming Chuseok holiday, health authorities also warn against complacency, saying that infections can occur at any point.
"We advise people to stay home and refrain from visiting family and relatives during the Chuseok holidays. This is for the safety of the elderly and those most vulnerable to the virus."
Speaking to reporters at Cheong Wa Dae, President Moon Jae-in said he will deal with those who hamper the nation's fight against COVID-19 sternly.
And that unauthorized street rallies and the spreading of fake news will not be tolerated. His remarks come with demonstrations scheduled to take place during Chuseok.
Meanwhile, South Korean Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun has tested negative for COVID-19.
Chung received a coronavirus test on Tuesday after one of his close aides was confirmed to have the virus earlier in the day.
The Prime Minister will resume official duties again starting Wednesday.
