Joe Biden to be sued for suggesting Kyle Rittenhouse is a white supremacist
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his campaign are “going to be sued” for defamation on behalf of alleged Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse, according to an attorney of the teenager.
Lin Wood tweeted his intention to sue after the former vice president shared a video on Twitter suggesting the 17-year-old was a white supremacist.
“Kyle Rittenhouse has a defamation claim against Joe Biden for falsely accusing him of being a white supremacist & militia member responsible for violence in Kenosha,” Mr Wood said in a tweet.
“Candidate Biden = Defendant Biden.
“Joe is going to be sued.”
Mr Biden shared the 50-second video, seen more than 2.5 million times, after the first debate with President Donald Trump.
The video, uploaded with the caption "there’s no other way to put it: the president of the United States refused to disavow white supremacists on the debate stage last night", featured a photo of Rittenhouse armed with a gun during riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The 17-year-old faces a number of criminal charges from the August shooting including first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree reckless homicide.
The teenager’s attorneys have claimed the teen was being attacked by protesters and acted in self-defence.
