미 CDC "코로나19, 제한적 이례적 상황서 공기 감염 가능"

Weeks after publishing and then removing new guidelines on COVID-19, health authorities in the U.S. have officially acknowledged that COVID-19 can be transmitted through small droplets and particles lingering in the air.
Han Seong-woo has the details.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday, local time, admitted that COVID-19 can spread via airborne transmission under certain circumstances.
The agency revealed that evidence shows some patients had infected others more than six feet, or roughly 180 centimeters, apart in enclosed spaces that lacked ventilation, confirming wide concerns that aerosols lingering in the air can indeed be contagious.
They noted that a number of these carriers were breathing heavily at the time, for example while singing or exercising.
Scientists believe that, under such conditions, the amount of infectious smaller droplets and particles produced by infected people became concentrated enough to spread the virus to others.
The agency said that data shows airborne transmissions are much less common than contracting the virus through close contact with an infected person.
But according to Reuters, this view is not shared by a group of American scientists who recently wrote in the medical journal Science that aerosols could be a major source of COVID-19 transmission.
The CDC's new guidelines come weeks after they published and then controversially took down a similar warning on their website, sparking debate over how the virus spreads.
