Hakim Ziyech has withdrawn from Morocco’s squad as part of an agreement between Chelsea and the national team. The midfielder has not yet made his debut for Chelsea after he suffered a knee injury during a pre-season friendly against Brighton at the end of August. Ziyech, who was signed in a £33.3 million deal from Ajax in February, had been training with Chelsea’s first-team squad before the international break but Frank Lampard claimed that the midfielder was still short of fitness. Chelsea allowed Ziyech to join up with Morocco’s national team this week and the midfielder returned from injury to play 31 minutes in the 3-1 victory over Senegal on Friday evening. Ziyech delivered an impressive second-half cameo in Rabat and provided an excellent assist for Morocco’s third goal. But The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) has confirmed that Ziyech has now withdrawn from the squad ahead of their friendly against DR Congo on Tuesday.

Christian Pulisic says he sees no reason why Chelsea cannot compete for both the Premier League and the Champions League after the club spent over £200million on new signings this summer. Frank Lampard steered Chelsea to a fourth-placed finish in the English top flight last season in what was the manager’s first year in charge at Stamford Bridge.
And while Chelsea have had a mixed start to the current campaign, Pulisic is confident the Blues now have ‘an edge’ and a feeling of confidence that was missing last term. ‘We’ve brought in more experienced players this year with some new signings, and I think we also have a great group of young guys so I think it’s a really good mix,’ the United States forward told CBS Sports. ‘Last year was more of a transition year where obviously we couldn’t sign any new players, but we still had some of the guys who’d been there. ‘What was great about last year is a lot of the young guys got a lot of experience. ‘This year there’s definitely a boosted confidence, we’ve got an edge. We’re ready, we want to compete, and we want to win titles.’
