아프리카 최고봉 킬리만자로에 산불…수백명 이틀째 진화작업
Fire broke out on Africa's tallest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro on Sunday, located on the border between Kenya and Tanzania.
Efforts to extinguish the fire were still ongoing on Monday, with local residents, firefighters and other government institutions battling to contain the flames.
According to local media, high altitude as well as strong winds and dry weather have caused the fire to spread fast on Sunday, but winds have died down as of Monday morning.
Mount Kilimanjaro, a UNESCO world heritage site, reaches nearly 6-thousand meters above sea level.
It's also a popular tourist destination, with around 50-thousand tourists known to visit the mountain every year.
